Quick answer
Rolls Royce hire for 1 hour suits ceremony arrivals and photography, where the car is needed for a fixed window rather than a whole schedule. A day covers a full wedding or a shoot with travel between locations. A weekend makes sense once you are driving for pleasure rather than for an event. Self-drive is open to drivers aged 25 to 70, and taking the car outside England, Scotland and Wales needs our prior written consent.
Working up from the shortest booking, here is what each length actually covers and which car suits it.

How short can you hire a Rolls-Royce for?
Short bookings are possible, and they are more common than people expect. A ceremony arrival, a set of photographs outside a venue, or a single scene in a shoot does not need the car for a day.
What a short booking buys you is the arrival itself. What it does not buy is flexibility. If the ceremony overruns, if the photographer wants an extra location, or if the weather moves the schedule, a tight window becomes a problem. Confirm the exact period when you request your quote rather than assuming an hour means an hour door to door.
What does a day’s hire actually cover?
A day is the length most people want without realising it. It absorbs the things a short booking cannot: a ceremony that runs late, a second location, a photographer who finds better light somewhere else.
Collection and return times are agreed when you book rather than being fixed, so a day can be shaped around a schedule that starts early or finishes late. Mileage, deposit and insurance terms are set out in our hire agreement, and they are worth reading before you confirm rather than after.
When does a weekend make more sense?
A weekend changes what the car is for. An hour or a day is about an event. A weekend is about driving.
If the plan involves a route rather than a venue, a hotel rather than a ceremony, or more than one day of use, the weekend rate is usually the better answer. Maximum hire under our hire agreement is three months, so longer arrangements are possible where there is a reason for them.
Self-drive or chauffeur: which suits your booking?
Chauffeur-driven suits anything where you want to arrive rather than drive. Weddings, corporate events, anything where parking at the other end is somebody else’s problem.
Self-drive suits the weekend, the milestone birthday, and the person for whom the point is being behind the wheel. It comes with conditions that chauffeur hire does not.

Who can drive a Rolls-Royce on self-drive?
Self-drive hire is open to drivers aged 25 to 70, and self-drive vehicles can be taken within the UK. Both are set out in our hire agreement.
That matters more than it sounds. If the person who wants to drive falls outside the band, or the trip crosses into Northern Ireland or Ireland, the booking needs to be chauffeur-driven instead. It is a five-minute conversation at quote stage and an expensive discovery on the morning.
Which Rolls-Royce suits the time you have?
The right car depends partly on how long you have it for.
For an hour, the Phantom makes the strongest single arrival. It is the most recognisable car in the fleet and it photographs best standing still.
For a day, the Ghost is the easier companion. Quieter to sit in for long stretches, less imposing in traffic, and comfortable whether you are driving or being driven.
For a weekend, the Dawn is the one to take. It is a four-seat convertible, and the point of it only emerges over distance and good weather.
For groups or luggage, the Cullinan handles what the saloons cannot, including venues with gravel drives and unmade tracks.

What happens if your date changes?
Dates move, and our terms are published rather than discussed case by case. More than four weeks before the hire date, half the deposit is refunded. Between two and four weeks, you receive a transferable credit note for half the amount paid, and it does not expire. Inside two weeks, amounts paid are not recoverable. If you move your date, the terms are calculated from the original date rather than the new one.
The full detail is in our cancellation policy.
Which occasions suit which hire length?
- Milestone celebrations: A day or a weekend, usually self-drive, usually the point of the whole thing.
- Weddings: Usually a day. An hour covers the arrival but leaves no room for the photographs afterwards. We cover the wedding side in more depth in our guide to hiring a Rolls-Royce for a wedding.
- Corporate events: Often a few hours, chauffeur-driven, timed around the event rather than the day.
- Photography and film: Depends entirely on the shot list. A single static setup is short. Anything with multiple locations is a day.

What makes a Rolls-Royce worth the booking?
Every Rolls-Royce is hand-built at Goodwood. Through the Bespoke programme, buyers can choose from more than 44,000 paint colours, and a new shade can be created if none of them fits.
Inside, the engineering goes into silence rather than speed. The Phantom uses over 130 kg of sound insulation, 6 mm acoustic glass and foam-filled tyres. An hour in the back of one is quieter than most rooms you will sit in that week, and that is the part people remember.
Key takeaways
- Short bookings suit a fixed arrival. A day suits anything with a schedule that might move.
- Collection and return times are agreed at booking rather than fixed.
- Self-drive is 25 to 70, and going beyond England, Scotland and Wales needs written consent. Chauffeur hire has neither condition.
- Maximum hire period is three months.
- Date changes are calculated from the original date, not the new one.

FAQs
1. How much does it cost to hire a Rolls-Royce for a day?
Cost depends on the model, whether you choose self-drive or chauffeur hire, and how long you need the car. Shorter bookings cost less than a full day, and weekend and multi-day rates work differently again. We quote per booking rather than publishing a rate card, so tell us the date, the model and the hours and we will price it.
2. Can I hire a Rolls Royce for just one hour?
Short bookings are available and are common for ceremony arrivals and photography. Confirm the exact window when you request your quote, including collection and return, so there is no ambiguity on the day.
3. Which Rolls-Royce models can I hire?
Our fleet includes the Phantom, including extended-wheelbase cars, the Ghost, the Cullinan and the Dawn convertible. The current range is listed on our Rolls-Royce hire page.
4. Can I hire a Rolls-Royce with a chauffeur?
Yes. We offer both self-drive and chauffeur-driven hire. Chauffeur hire is the more common choice for weddings and corporate events, and it removes the age and territory conditions that apply to self-drive.
5. Is there a minimum or maximum hire period?
Hire periods are flexible, from a few hours through to a full day, a weekend, or longer. The maximum under our hire agreement is three months.
6. Can I take a self-drive Rolls-Royce outside England, Scotland and Wales?
Not without our prior written consent. If your plans take the car beyond those three countries, raise it before you book rather than on the day, and we will tell you whether it can be arranged.
